BECBC Board Meeting Friday 12th November
In the first #BECBCBoardonTour the Board Meeting took place at PaR systems where they did a great job of making us feel welcome. Notes from the meeting with the approved 2022 membership fees, the Vision, Mission and Values and the new policies approved at board can be found on the Forum.
Ian Wheeler from Cumbria Local Enterprise Partnership and Rob Ward of Copeland Borough Council will speak about the plans for Cumbria. The government’s 10 point plan for a Green Revolution issued last year sets out a plan that will be a defining issue for businesses that will drive both exciting opportunities as well as serious challenges. The Cumbria LEP are focused on promoting a wide range of clean energy developments spanning new nuclear, hydrogen, offshore wind through to a range of community scale developments whilst at the same time addressing the de-carbonisation of industry. This session will be a great opportunity to provide an overview of developments and to engage with the BECBC community

We hope you can join us at December's meeting to hear from Jo Lappin, Chief Exec of Cumbria LEP, covering: Economic Forward Look for Cumbria. The combination of COVID-19 and EU Exit has resulted in enormous and rapid changes and stresses and strains at UK level, which in some respects have been magnified in Cumbria. So what has been the impact to date and what might we expect going forward? An opportunity to find out more about the direction of travel for Cumbria's economy. With more exciting presentations, the announcement of the Shadow Board Award Winners and the launch of the BECBC Awards 2022 it's an event not to be missed. Don't forget your Xmas jumper and to vote for our Xmas Charity 2022 (see link below). All topped off with a delicious Christmas lunch and chance to network.
We hope to create a new clean energy economy in the United Kingdom. We are developing a 3.2 GW nuclear project at Sizewell C and are exploring – as part of a UK-wide nuclear industry consortium – plans to develop a clean energy economy to deliver clean energy and support an industrial hub, through a mixture of UK EPRs (and potentially also SMRs/AMRs), wind and hydrogen in Cumbria. The project will make a significant contribution to the UK’s net zero target using existing nuclear skills.
This week you can find out about Insider Insights from Solomons Europe, decide if you think Cumbria's stars are aligning or we're suffering from dangerous complacency and learn more about Lean from Jowsa Consulting.
