No lease office hire in the middle of Cockermouth
Co-working expansion boosts Cockermouth’s high street
The Vicky co-working space in Cockermouth is expanding to add a range of no lease serviced offices and a private meeting room to its workspace offer.
The aim is to draw more people into the town, bring vacant rooms above shops back to life, provide much-needed facilities without long leases and offer something which is unique in the area.
The Vicky co-working space opened almost six years ago in the historic Victoria Hall, a former chapel on High Sand Lane and became the town’s first, and only, hot-desking facility. The new suite of offices and the meeting room are on nearby Station Street, where they will ensure under-used space above retail businesses does not lie empty.
The rooms have been redesigned and repurposed to create one meeting room which is available to hire for half or full days, and offices which can be rented from just one a day. The fully serviced facilities boast full fibre broadband and the all-inclusive, deliberately affordable price includes everything from cleaning and office equipment, to the tea and coffee and all utility bills.
They’ve already been fitted out with office furniture and been decorated in a colourful style – co-incidentally, they even have their own stained-glass window, which is at the centre of The Vicky’s brand.
One of the founders of The Vicky, Dave Bealt, said: “In keeping with the principle of the existing shared workspace, we wanted give some under used space a new lease of life. The Vicky is only a small building and, though we have a meeting ‘pod’, we were always being asked if we had a proper private meeting room.
“This new venture means we can offer that, and the office space with no leases, ideal for people who are temporarily working in the area or want that ‘incubator’ space before they commit to a long-term rental as they grow their business.
“The other big factor for me is that we are bringing more people into Cockermouth every day. I live in Cockermouth and work at The Vicky and I want to see our town thrive. As the nature of the high street changes, I think it’s really important that we find new ways of encouraging people and business to enjoy Cockermouth and I hope this is one way of doing that.
“I wanted to make it as easy and as accessible as possible for those who’ll use the spaces which is why there are no hidden extra costs. Just bring your laptop and your lunch and settle in!
