Morgan Sindall Construction appointed to Ministry of Defence's Strategic Alliance Contract
Morgan Sindall Construction is to play a pivotal role in the Ministry of Defence’s (MoD) estate optimisation following its appointment to a new Strategic Alliance Contract.
The agreement represents a new way of working for the MoD with the construction industry. It will see contractors tender for the Design & Build elements of a Delivery, Commercial & Procurement Strategy Process within a high-profile defence investment portfolio.
The contract will be recognised with a ceremonial signing by Secretary of State, the Rt Hon Ben Wallace MP, at the end of May and will provide numerous benefits to the way the MoD is currently enhancing its estate under the Defence Estate Optimisation (DEO) portfolio.
DEO is a £5.1bn investment portfolio which is focussed on delivering a better structured, modern and more sustainable estate that more effectively supports military capability and aims to enhance the lived experience of our military personnel.
At the heart of DEO’s vision is a significant construction and refurbishment programme for both single living and service family accommodation as well as a range of, operational, educational, and technical facilities which spans the MoD’s UK estate.
Pat Boyle, managing director of Morgan Sindall Construction, said:
It is an honour to have been appointed to the MoD’s Strategic Alliance Framework. As a business we are proud of our close connections with the military community. That spans from our work constructing unique environments for service personnel to operate, train and live - such as HMS Cambria - to the many past and present employees whose pathways to civilian life we have supported after they left the military.
We are therefore well placed to help the DEO deliver upon its laudable aims to enhance the day to day lives of those who serve in the military and their families. Our project teams across the country will work closely with our partners at the MoD to produce lower carbon buildings and to deliver social value initiatives that deliver real change in communities.
Our Intelligent Solutions approach unites digital and platform design capabilities with modern construction methods and carbon reduction tools and will prove to be a critical asset in in delivering buildings and complexes that meet the needs of 21st century military personnel.”
The MoD’s Director of Infrastructure Sherin Aminossehe said:
The Strategic Alliance Contract for the Defence Estate Optimisation Portfolio will allow us to capitalise on the wealth of knowledge within the construction industry and harness that expertise in a way we’ve not previously done. The contract will ensure we can deliver the right buildings and infrastructure for Defence that will enable our military capability and create the right environment for our people to train, work and live in. We will be delivering at pace and start to see the benefits straight away within projects being mobilised this year.
This important milestone marks the culmination of a lot of hard work and dedication by the Defence Estate Optimisation team and I offer my congratulations to them as well as to the successful contractors who we look forward to working with in delivering our shared vision.”
