From BECBC to Ukraine - how conversations can build bridges
A CONVERSATION at a BECBC networking event sparked a relationship between Cairnhill Structures and the Department of Trade which will see the company rebuild two essential bridges in the war-torn country.
Cairnhill Structures, a leading UK-based structural engineering firm, will be responsible for the manufacture of steel bridge deck sections for the Makarov and Vishgorod Bridges near Kyiv. This project involves the fabrication of 400 tons of steelwork, which will be produced in the UK and exported to Ukraine.
The project, which is part of Ukraine’s broader redevelopment plan, is being supported by UK Export Finance, enabling the Ukrainian Ministry of Redevelopment to secure commercial financing through a UK bank. A significant portion of the work must involve UK content, and Cairnhill Structures’ contribution has been instrumental in meeting this requirement. The company will produce manufacturing drawings, buy the steel, fabricate all of the steelwork, complete the protective treatment and load onto to transport before it makes its way to Ukraine.
Cairnhill’s involvement in the project began during a BECBC networking session, where they connected with Sarah Peak from the Department for Business and Trade. This collaboration helped Cairnhill secure the opportunity, illustrating the power of BECBC’s networking events to foster meaningful business opportunities for its members.
